To help guide parents and carers through the treatment for head injuries, health bosses at Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) have produced an information sheet as part of ‘The Big 6’ initiative, which aims to help parents and carers tackle the most common childhood illnesses.

In a lot of cases, children with head injuries don’t need to be seen by a professional and can be treated at home. If your child remains conscious and is behaving normally, they can be treated at home with liquid paracetamol for any headaches.

However, if your child exhibits any more concerning symptoms – such as loss of consciousness, amnesia, skull injury or seizures – they will need to be taken to A&E.

The advice sheets include the warning signs to look out for and a set of frequently asked questions (FAQs) that you can use to assess the severity of your child’s injury. They also list the actions you should take in response to the different symptoms your child may have.

Parents, carers and the general public can click on the link to access the Head injury advice sheet.
