Priya’s Story

Woman standing in front of trees. Text reads: Priya was feeling constantly anxious and struggling to switch off. When I started feeling constantly anxious and worrying about things that I would usually manage, I realised I needed some support. I found myself lying awake at night thinking about everyday things and was struggling to switch off. It was beginning to affect my sleep, my confidence and how I felt day to day.

I decided to find out what support was available and learned that I could call NHS 111 and select the mental health option (option 2) to speak to a trained mental health professional. Knowing that support was available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, reassured me that I didn't have to cope with everything on my own.

When I called, I was able to talk about how I had been feeling, discuss my concerns and get advice about the support available to me. Having someone listen and help me understand my options made me feel less alone and more confident about taking the next steps to look after my mental health.

Taking that first step made me realise that I didn't have to manage everything on my own. I learned that asking for help is just as important as looking after my physical health.

This experience showed me that support is available when you need it, and that reaching out for help can make a real difference
