The Intensive Support Team

The Intensive Support Team is a multidisciplinary team which consists of the following professional disciplines: Occupational Therapy; Speech and Language Therapy; Social Care; Psychology and Nursing.

What does the Intensive Support Team do?

The Intensive Support Team provides intensive support, enhancing that provided by the Community Learning Disability Teams (CLDT), for individuals who present with behaviours that challenge to the extent that they are at risk of:

  • Offending
  • Injuring self or others
  • Placement breakdown
  • Inappropriate hospital detention

Luke's Story: Our family's experience of Learning Disability care

Luke is a young man with learning disabilities and complex care needs. In this interview, his mother describes their family's experience of different care providers over the years. Many of their experiences were bad, but since the Shropshire Intensive Support Team (IST) became involved both Luke's and his family's lives have been transformed for the better.
