Jeremy’s ‘heart, soul and passion’ for work in cancer care wins him Star of the Month

18 May 2023

At the NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin’s Staff Huddle, Simon Whitehouse, Chief Executive Officer, awarded May’s Star of the Month  to Jeremy Roberts, Macmillan Community Care Project Manager.

The Star of the Month Award recognises the commitment and dedication of staff members who go above and beyond what is expected of them to make a difference to patients, the public and colleagues.

Jeremy was nominated by Charmaine Whitehouse, who works in the Primary Care Team.

Charmaine said: “Jeremy has managed the pilot of the Macmillan Project within the Primary Care Team and has put heart, soul, passion, compassion, determination, and the desire to utilise the pilot to provide the best care for cancer patients in our community. The pilot has been a huge success, and this is solely down to the hard work, long hours, and the drive he had in him to support the team he managed, lead and nurtured. He also communicated with outside organisations and secondary care to ensure that it was a unified approach. I was honoured to be part of the pilot by providing the admin support to the team and this project. I think Jeremy deserves the recognition for his role in this project, which ends at the end of May 2023, and that his work is remembered for the impact it has had.

“Jeremy has been a pleasure to work with and together with his Macmillan Cancer Care Coordinators (MCCC), I can't wait to hear about how this hard work will change the lives of patients with cancer who, when at their lowest, were able to utilise this project and the amazing work that Jeremy and the fantastic MCCCs have done in the last 18 months.”

When announcing this month’s Star of the Month, Simon Whitehouse, Chief Executive, said: “It’s a great pleasure to read the nominations each month and hear about the great work happening across the organisation. Jeremy’s dedication and commitment is inspiring. Congratulations Jeremy.”

After receiving the award, Jeremy said: “On behalf of our fantastic team for our Macmillan Community Care Project, it’s great to win this award as a team, the Macmillan Community Care Coordinators, our Board (including Charmaine’s valuable support), Fiona Hay, Janet Gittins and myself in our roles.”
