Health professionals in general practice recognised at annual conference and awards
25 June 2026
Nurses, Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) and primary care colleagues from across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin came together recently to celebrate excellence, innovation and compassionate care.
Building on the inaugural Nursing Awards event in 2025, the event was organised by the Shropshire Telford and Wrekin Primary Care Training Hub, bringing together the General Practice Nursing Conference and Awards.
The conference showcased the breadth of talent, expertise and dedication within general practice and highlighted the vital role nurses and primary care professionals play in supporting the health and wellbeing of local communities.
Vanessa Whatley, Chief Nursing Officer for NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, said: “It was a privilege to present the awards and meet so many inspiring professionals whose dedication makes a real difference to patients, communities and colleagues every day.
“The event reflected the strength, expertise and compassion that exists across general practice nursing. It was particularly inspiring to hear the stories of both experienced practitioners and those at the beginning of their careers, all contributing to the continued development of primary care.
“As healthcare close to people’s homes continues to be an area of considerable development, nurses working in general practice are playing an increasingly important role in supporting neighbourhood-based models of care and helping us deliver more care closer to home, with a greater focus on prevention and early intervention.
“We were also delighted to recognise colleagues who have dedicated between 20 and 40 years of service to general practice nursing. Their commitment, knowledge and professionalism have made an enormous contribution to patient care and to the profession as a whole.”
Patsy Clifton, Consultant Nurse and Advanced Practice Facilitator for the Shropshire Telford and Wrekin Training Hub, said: “The awards were a fitting celebration of a workforce that sits at the heart of primary care. General Practice Nurses bring exceptional clinical expertise, leadership and innovation to their roles, while building trusted relationships with patients and families. Their impact is felt every day in communities across the county.
“The evening provided a valuable opportunity to recognise achievements, celebrate success and shine a spotlight on the remarkable work taking place across our general practice teams. It was an inspiring event and a reminder of the difference this workforce makes to people's lives.”
