GP patient survey results in – local people praise GP services

People in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent have given good feedback on GP care in the latest GP Patient Survey.

The survey asks people across England about GP services once a year. The survey also asks about care from NHS dental care and community pharmacies. The results are positive for both local NHS areas.

Both areas scored above the national average for overall patient experience and came in the top 10 areas in England, and many local GP practices received very high scores. 

In Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, eight practices scored 95% or more for patient satisfaction. Brown Clee Medical Practice scored 100% which was one of only two practices in the Midlands with a perfect score. In Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, 11 practices scored 95% or more. Several scored 98%. 

The survey showed that more people now use online services to contact their GP practice than last year. Local and national results also showed better feedback for NHS dental and community pharmacy services. 

Dr Rachel Gallyot, Interim Chief Medical Officer for the two ICBs, said: “These results are good news for local people. It is great to see so many practices across both areas receiving such positive feedback. Every day, staff work hard to provide safe, high-quality care for their patients.”

The results show the work by GP teams to make care easier to access and improve the service people receive.  

Simon Whitehouse, Chief Executive Officer for the two ICBs, said: “These results show that many patients are getting a good service from their GP practice. We know there is still more to do, but it is encouraging to see so much positive feedback from people across both areas.”
