Ban on Disposable Vapes: Support Available for Smokers Looking to Quit
30 May 2025
From Sunday, 1 June 2025, single use (disposable) vapes will be banned across the UK under new environmental legislation. These are the single use vapes that cannot be refilled or recharged. This change aims to protect the environment and protect young people from accessing vaping products.
This is not a ban on all vapes. People who are using vapes to help them stop smoking can still buy rechargeable and refillable vapes. These are safer for the planet and can be cheaper over time.
Working in partnership, NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, Shropshire Council, and Telford and Wrekin Council want to support people who are trying to quit smoking.
If you are worried about the ban or don’t know what to do next, there is free help and advice available. There are lots of safe ways to quit, and we are here to help you find the best one for you.
Quitting has many health benefits, no matter how long you have been vaping or smoking. It can improve your breathing and energy levels, lower your risk of serious diseases like heart disease, stroke and cancer, and help you live a longer, healthier life. Many people also find that quitting improves their mood, sleep, and saves them money.
Lorna Clarson, Chief Medical Officer at NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, said: “We know that vaping can help people stop smoking, and this ban doesn’t change that. But it’s important to choose safer and most effective options available. Stopping altogether is the best thing you can do for your health. Our local stop smoking services are here to support anyone ready to take that step.”
