National Lead Visits Shropshire Neighbourhood Teams

On Monday 9 February, NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin were delighted to welcome Dr Minal Bakhai MBE, National SRO for the National Neighbourhood Health Implementation Programme (NNHIP), to Shropshire.

The visit highlighted the fantastic work taking place across our neighbourhood teams, and the strong partnerships in our whole health and care system that underpin it.

Dr Bakhai’s schedule included visits to:

  • Shropshire Council’s Community Wellbeing Outreach Team on board the Winter Outreach Wellness bus, demonstrating proactive winter outreach, health checks and wellbeing support in rural communities.
  • Dementia Neighbourhood Team, Much Wenlock and Cressage Surgery, hosted by Dr Jess Harvey and team, showcasing personalised dementia support and multi‑disciplinary working.
  • Winter Wellness Clinic and Frailty Neighbourhood Team, Severn Fields Medical Practice, Shrewsbury, hosted by Shrewsbury’s neighbourhood health colleagues, focusing on early identification and support for people living with frailty.

A huge thank you to all colleagues involved in planning and hosting the visit; your work continues to make a real difference to people and communities across Shropshire, helping people to stay happy, healthy and connected in their communities.

In September, Shropshire was selected as one of 43 places around the country to take part in wave one of the NNHIP. The strong partnerships built through the process will support us to spread the learning across Telford and Wrekin, aiding our local ambition to help people stay well and thrive in their neighbourhoods, across the system.
