Lee’s Story
When I started experiencing pain in my knee that made it difficult to walk comfortably and climb stairs, I hoped it would get better on its own. I enjoy staying active, so when the pain continued and started affecting my day-to-day activities, I decided it was time to contact my GP practice.
After discussing my symptoms, I was offered an appointment with a physiotherapist who is part of the practice’s Extended Healthcare Team. They assessed my knee, explained what might be contributing to the pain and talked me through exercises and practical steps to help manage it.
I was reassured to be seen by the right healthcare professional and left with a better understanding of what was causing my symptoms and what I could do to improve them.
I hadn’t realised that my GP practice could offer access to physiotherapists as well as GPs. Knowing I could get advice and support from the right healthcare professional helped me feel more confident about managing my symptoms.
This experience showed me that my GP practice is more than just GPs. There are a range of healthcare professionals with different skills and expertise who can help people get the care they need.
