Health Checks at Oswestry Food Bank

Health checks are now being offered once a month to visitors at Oswestry and Borders food bank on Beatrice Street.

The sessions include a blood pressure check with the option to have a heart-age and diabetes test from one of Shropshire Council’s community wellbeing outreach officers.

The first session took place in January, with the next scheduled for Thursday 16th March.

Liz Jermy, Oswestry and Borders food banks manager said,  “Here at the foodbank we are delighted to be working more closely with health agencies in offering more targeted help to the visitors who walk through our doors.

We encourage people to come to number 58 Beatrice Street to meet with the support services face to face.  You do not need to have a referral for food to be able access our walk-in services.”

Cecilia Motley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adult social care, public health and communities said, “The community wellbeing outreach team do a fantastic job of making health checks convenient, welcoming and accessible.  They can signpost support services in the community as well or even just offer a listening ear.

“It is easy to overlook your own health and wellbeing when life is busy or you are facing other challenges, but if you can take the opportunity to have a quick check now, it could help to prolong your health in the future.”
