Adding your pronouns; a small way to show your support this Pride Month

To help cultivate a more inclusive work environment, we’re encouraging everyone across the Integrated Care System to show their support and allyship this Pride Month by adding gender pronouns in their email signature.

Whilst a seemingly small gesture, it could make a big difference to a lot of people who still feel the need to hide who they are at work, ultimately impacting on their general wellbeing in the workplace.

Gender pronouns are words that a person uses to describe themselves or would like others to describe them as. By including pronouns at the end of emails we raise awareness, demonstrate inclusivity, and show consideration and respect that pronouns are an important part of gender identity.

Just open a new email, click on the ‘Signatures’ button located on the ribbon and update – some examples are included below.

Stacey Keegan, Chief Executive at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, said: “By doing this you are extending a welcoming hand to our local LGBTQIA+ community and helping to create a kinder, more understanding and accepting culture and work community.

“It’s a small but powerful step to making our workplace a more comfortable environment for many and a great way to mark another brilliant Pride Month. I hope you will join me in updating your signatures and showing your solidarity.”

This Pride Month we’re asking people across our ICS organisations, to join us in adding their personal pronouns to their email signature.

By doing so we raise awareness, demonstrate inclusivity, and show consideration and respect that pronouns are an important part of gender identity.
