Families continue to shape the future of SEND services in Shropshire

23 September 2025

Partners from the NHS and Shropshire Council are working together to improve the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) support available in the local area.

A key part of this work is listening to the voices of families. Parent carers and their children and young people have already played a vital role in shaping improvements, and their feedback continues to guide future plans.

As part of this ongoing commitment, parent carers are being asked to complete a short survey to help inform Shropshire’s next SEND Accelerated Progress Plan, which will be submitted to the Department for Education next month.

Councillor Andy Hall, Cabinet Member for Children and Education at Shropshire Council, said: “We know there is more to do to make SEND services the best they can be. The feedback from families will directly inform our next Accelerated Progress Plan and ensure our work delivers meaningful improvements for children, young people, and their families. Together, we can build stronger, more responsive SEND support for all families across Shropshire.”

Vanessa Whatley, Chief Nursing Officer for NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, said: “This is an opportunity for parent carers to tell us what’s working well and where else we need to make improvement.

“We are interested in understanding whether, in relation to your experiences over the last 6 months, services met your individual or family needs, and if not, why not.

“Thank you to everyone who has responded to our previous surveys, these surveys are an important part of our ongoing commitment to improve the health and wellbeing of our children and young people.”

Your feedback will also contribute to a wider programme of work led by NHS Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, which is currently gathering views on all-age ADHD and Autism services. This work will help shape improvements for children, young people, adults, and families across the local area.
