Help caring for someone

Support for unpaid carers

If you help look after a family member, partner, friend or neighbour who could not manage without your support, you may be an unpaid carer.

Caring for someone can be rewarding, but it can also have an impact on your own health and wellbeing. Support is available, and you do not need to wait until you feel overwhelmed or need a Carer’s Assessment before asking for help.

Support may include:

  • Information and advice
  • One-to-one and peer support
  • Breaks from caring (respite support)
  • Emergency planning
  • Help looking after your own wellbeing
